Hope House Essex Newsletter May 2021

It is so good that we are slowly coming out of Lockdown 3! We hope that all is well with you and yours and we would like to take this opportunity once again to thank you all for your support of Hope House Essex (HHE) and Hope House Community (HHC). Without your donations and support we would not be where we are today.

2021 is going to be a busy year for everyone as we adjust to the new ‘normal’. For us at Hope House it has seen the need for us to expand our staffing team to three members of staff – two support workers and a house coordinator/bookkeeper who are supported by our five volunteer trustees.

Currently we have eight resident rooms at HHE and an expanding HHC where we have continued to offer support to our ex-residents and to those in need of help to prevent them from becoming homeless. During the pandemic we have continued to admit people to Hope House and have referred and supported a resident into residential rehab. One of our residents who has been with us for a year and now in employment has received a move on nomination from the council which will see them leaving us into their own accommodation.

We are focusing on two large projects this year – one is to undertake double glazing of both properties (saving us money on our fuel bills in the longer term) and the other to improve the driveway so that visitors and staff will be able to park safely. The window project is the first on the list as we have received some funding towards and once completed, we will need to replace some of the net curtains and blinds so your donations towards these would be appreciated. We are working on raising the funds needed for the driveway project in readiness to start this.

We have had to limit the contact with volunteers over the last year to enable us to keep everyone safe, but now is the time for us to start to expand our volunteer base too. We need some new volunteer trustees (especially someone with a financial background) to support the continued growth of the charity. In previous years, our volunteers have arranged fund raising events, undertaken befriending roles with our residents and ex-residents and helped with DIY and gardening.

If you would like more information about becoming a volunteer, then please contact in the first instance and we can arrange to meet up and have a chat.
